Role Descriptions

  • Chair
    • Schedule dates, times and locations of meetings.
    • Ensure the meetings are called and conducted to SAE International’s Operational Manual, and SAE Alberta Section’s bylaw.
    • Establish and confirm an agenda for each meeting.
    • Provide leadership and ensure committee members are aware of their obligations.
  • Vice-Chair
    • Continually monitor the section’s long-term plan.
    • Share the duties of the Chair.
    • Be ready to assume the Chair’s responsibilities upon short notice.
    • Work closely with the Chair and actively participate in section affairs.
    • A good Vice-Chair should relieve the Chair of a significant part of the duties.
  • Treasurer
    • General financial oversight.
    • Financial planning and budgeting.
    • Financial reporting.
    • Monthly banking, bookkeeping and record keeping.
  • Communication Director
    • Maintain website for section’s traffic.
    • Ensure SAE Alberta Section’s web presence is operating correctly.
    • Generate and revise web pages.Examine and analyze site traffic.
    • Assist and manage SAE Alberta’s social media presences (Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn).
  • Director, Student Relations
    • Representative of local post-secondary institution, advising the board on how to engage and support local student events, and student team initiatives.
  • Young Professional Coordinator
    • Liaize with student organizations within Alberta to promote student member participation.
    • Advocate for changes with the SAE Alberta Section to promote the participation of young professionals.
  • Member-At-Large
    • Coordinate with external stakeholders to facilitate strategic outcomes as determined by the board.

The Immediate Past Chair is another member who will be serving the executive board. This position is not up for election.

The roles are for 1 year terms: serving from July of the current year to June of the following year. The members of the executive board serving the current section year will facilitate the onboarding processing of any newly elected members. The executive board will also receive training and supporting information from SAE International.

SAE Alberta expects the members of the executive board to meet monthly virtually and conduct the following:

  • Review of the previous year’s activities.
  • Announcement of committee appointments.
  • Review of section meeting plan.
  • Preparation of list of tentative activities and dates and assignment of responsibilities.
  • Review of SAE membership promotion plans.
  • Examinations of financial positions.

SAE International encourages diversity in leadership: membership should represent all segments of the mobility community, including industry, academia, and government.
